It's Not The Years... It's The Mileage

The Collier Lad’s Dream

A young boy, standing on the shoreline

Watching the tall ships coming in

Foreign names and destinations

The sights and the sounds that capture the wind

And I know that I’ll be leavin’

with the first ship out the bay

Dry your eyes Ma’ no greavin’

I’ll be coming back a better man someday…

A Captain or a Pirate King

A man of wealth with a song to sing

On the sea I can be anything

'cause I’ll be free

No more crawling in the dusty coal

A collier lad with a heart of gold

The rollin’ seas will save my soul

And I’ll be free, yes I’ll be free

The Cairo Rose weighs down her anchor

Cargo comes and cargo goes

Exotic smells tingle the senses

Awaken dreams from adventurers’ prose

And I know that I’ll be leavin’

with the tide at morning light

Dry your eyes Ma’ no fearin’

I’m going ‘cross the ocean to find a better life…

A Captain or a Pirate King

A man of wealth with a song to sing

On the sea I can be anything

'cause I’ll be free

No more crawling in the dusty coal

A collier lad with a heart of gold

The rollin’ seas will save my soul

And I’ll be free, yes I’ll be free

And I know that I’ll be leavin’

with that schooner from out the Tyne

Dry your eyes Ma’ no tearin’

I’ll start out a poor cabin boy return a fellow fine…

A Captain or a Pirate King

A man of wealth with a song to sing

On the sea I can be anything

'cause I’ll be free

No more crawling in the dusty coal

A collier lad with a heart of gold

The rollin’ seas will save my soul

And I’ll be free, yes I’ll be free

Whisper Of The Trees

There was something in the evening haze of old and new

Something in the ice on crystal waters blue

Something in the breathing made me think of you

Something in the whisper of the trees

There was something in the changing of the Autumns fall

Something in the sound of Mother Nature’s call

Something that I found I’d never lost at all

Something in the whisper of the trees

I can feel it within the breeze

Hear it trickle down the mountain stream

You are always a part of me

Even in my dreams… even in my dreams

There was something in the silence made me stop and shake

Something in the shadows dance upon the lake

Something when you left me that made my heart break

Something in the whisper of the trees

I can feel it within the breeze

Hear it trickle down the mountain stream

You are always a part of me

Even in my dreams

Though your spirit is hard to see

I say a prayer, I must believe

You are always there for me

Even in my dreams… even in my dreams

Getting Out

Out of luck, out of time

Out of sight, out of line

But baby, oh… I’m still here

Out of breath, out of my head

Out of cash, out of bed

But baby, oh… I’m still here

I’m sure enough... you’ll never bring me down

I’m packing a bag, gonna leave this town

Getting Out

Standing on my own two feet for the first time

Getting Out

Never looking back or waiting for a sign that never comes

I’m burning bridges, making changes

Now it’s all about me

Oh, I’m… Getting Out

Out of love, out of dreams

Out of hope, or so it seems

But baby, oh… I’m still here

Now I’m standing strong, I’m standing tall

When you wake up, I’ll be long, long gone

Oh baby… gone from here

Don’t try to follow me it won’t end well

You treat me like dirt now go to hell

Getting Out

Standing on my own two feet for the first time

Getting Out

Never looking back or waiting for a sign that never comes

I’m burning bridges, making changes

Now it’s all about me

Oh, I’m… Getting Out

Turn Around And Kiss Me

I was barely 17, full of hope and full of dreams

In a high school band with my best friend

You were older by a year

My heart leaped when you were near

You looked like an angel, a real live angel

I walked you home from the high school dance

A summer fling and a first romance

And the moment of that goodbye kiss

I’ll forever miss

All I want is to love someone like you

Turn around and kiss me

I swear that I’ll be true

Lift me up and hold me close to you

Turn around and kiss me, Baby, and say

“I do”

School was out I took a job

Working for the man by the clock

It wasn’t my dream, but it was ideal

A first home to call our own

Couldn’t pay the bills and loan

Things were so tight

We had our first fight

My head confused my heart with fear

I got scared left you in tears

And the moment of that goodbye kiss

I’ll forever miss

All I want is to love someone like you

Turn around and kiss me

I swear that I’ll be true

Lift me up and hold me close to you

Turn around and kiss me, Baby…

Ever year I regret more, the day you walked out of my door

‘They’ say that time’s a healer, but how much longer Lord?

All I want is to love someone like you

Turn around and kiss me

I swear that I’ll be true

Lift me up and hold me close to you

Turn around and kiss me, Baby, and say

“I do”

All I want is to love someone like you

Turn around and kiss me

You Are The Light

Down every road I wander

Through every field of fire

In every moment of hurting

My aching bones of desire

I feel your touch upon my skin

A kiss from your lips mean everything to me

I was blind but now I see…

You are the light…

Deep down in the darkness

When every hope is gone

In every foolish decision

Where who knows right from wrong

I feel your touch upon my skin

A kiss from your lips mean everything to me

I was blind but now I see…

You are the light…

No, I won’t brake

As long as you’re with me all the way, all the way

Every day and twice on Sunday (Sunday)

You are the light…

Kathy (Come On Home)

Eagles calling out from the radio

But I won’t cry I got some place to go

Another tequila sunrise, gonna dry my tears away

Just wasted time until I have to face the day

My boots are sinking beneath these blues

I think I’m needing some brand-new shoes

Oh Kathy, come on home

I’m so alone without you

Driving away emotion into the desert night

Sick to my middle from your old love bite

I’ve been struck down, used up, left out in the rain

And desperado is like a shot for the pain

Come back and save me, one more time

I promise everything will be just fine

Oh Kathy, come on home

I’m so alone without you

Oh Kathy, come on home

I’m so alone

One of these nights if we take it easy

Gonna be alright with the peaceful easy feeling yeah

Oh Kathy, come on home

I’m so alone without you

Oh Kathy, come on home

I’m so alone without you

Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It

A Southern Country Boy, raising hell trying to impress

A Texas Flower blooms, in her little cotton dress

Drinking moonshine whisky, watermelon wine and beer

But all we really wanted was a shot to fit in here

Baby it’s ’85 in the shade

But it’s hotter still – with this here renegade…

Kick back, enjoy the sunshine

Top down, lost highway, rebel summertime

I know your mother wouldn’t like it

Don’t look back, cross the borderline

I’m smart - I’m a regular Einstein

I know your mother wouldn’t like it

(But that’s fine!)

Born somewhere in Dixie, raise somewhere in Maine

Never had a place of my own, or knew my Daddy’s name

Oh Dallas Lady, I really like your plan

Let’s turn this joint for money

I’ve always been a gambling man

Baby you know you got it made

But you gotta run now with this here renegade…

Kick back, enjoy the sunshine

Top down, lost highway, rebel summertime

I know your mother wouldn’t like it

Don’t look back, cross the borderline

I’m smart - I’m a regular Einstein

I know your mother wouldn’t like it

(But that’s fine!)

I Can’t Do Right… For Doing Wrong

Laying here in your company

In your arms so warm wrapped tightly around me

But I just can’t leave…

But there’s someone else waiting patiently

In a wedding dress so pretty as can be

But I just can’t leave…

I can’t do right for doing wrong

You hold me back so I can’t carry on

To where I need to be

Where I should belong

Standing right beside her

I can’t do right for doing wrong

Laying here so affectionately

Guilty as charged, please someone please arrest me

There’s a church full of friends and family

Wondering just what the hell has happened to me

But I just can’t leave…

I can’t do right for doing wrong

You hold me back so I can’t carry on

To where I need to be

Where I should belong

Standing right beside her

Fools Of Us All

I need a witness I must be blessed

For this one thing I do confess

Leaving you near broke my soul

I need you close to make me whole

Paid the price I’ll walk the line

Stand accused I’ll do the time

Love can rise and love can fall

But then love make fools of us all

I’ve done so much I’ve tried to forget

But only one thing I regret

Was leaving you for someone new

Before the ache of love was through

See me now on bended knee

Half the man I used to be

Love can rise and love can fall

But then love makes fools of us all

And over time the wounds could heal

If I could learn how not to feel, anymore

Stand accused I’ll do the time

Paid the price I’ll walk the line

Love can rise and love can fall

But then love makes fools of us all

Return To Oz

No, this isn’t Kansas, and it’s sure no home to me

Miles away from anywhere, so tired I can’t see

I lost my ruby shoes somewhere down the lane

But all my hopes of leaving only brought me back again

Do you feel like I feel? Is this for real?

Oh, it aint so bad, to need again all that you had

Oh, they tore up the yellow brick road

And laid a motorway down

And painted signs to a brand-new life, in another place

Just another face in another town

Oh, won’t you come around?

No, I can’t believe this, there’s something not quite right

Technicolour faces only fade to black and white

I close my eyes and think of you, but you don’t seem to care

Do I click and wonder; “Will I wake and still be there?”

Do you feel like I feel? Is this for real?

Oh, it aint so bad, to need again all that you had

Oh, they tore up the yellow brick road

And laid a motorway down

And painted signs to a brand-new life, in another place

Just another face in another town

Oh, won’t you come around?

What Happened To Us?

We were real close allies, going back in the day

Until complications secrets and lies got in the way

There’s some things we do

Some things we should never say

But actions speak volumes and words they like to play

It’s such a shame, we don’t seem to matter much

But I guess it’s what comes down, when you’re out of touch

I don’t wanna pry, or make a fuss

All I wanna know… is what happened to us?

Talk is cheap, now you can count the cost

All those single precious moments found then lost

Friends or lovers, lovers and friends

Never to be wanted, needed or even to be close again

It’s such a shame, we don’t seem to matter much

But I guess it’s what comes down, when you’re out of touch

I don’t wanna pry, or make a fuss

All I wanna know… is what happened to us?

There’s one more thing, preying on my mind

…was I selfish, thoughtless, foolish or unkind?

Did I treat you wrong, or ever make you cry?

Was there anything more I could do before you said; “Goodbye”?

It’s such a shame, we don’t seem to matter much

But I guess it’s what comes down, when you’re out of touch

I don’t wanna pry, or make a fuss

All I wanna know…

All I wanna know now

All I wanna know… is what happened to us?

Comfortable Shoes

Standing up, down at the crossroads

By the four roads that brought me here

With a new strength to make a choice

The path to walk was oh so clear

What I learned through the passage of time

There’s plenty a’ road-blocks along the way

So many diversions to lead you false

But with a little faith you can find your way

And it’s not the years it’s the mileage

Every second you have is a gift from above

And all I need are some comfy shoes and your…

love, love, love, love, love, love, love

So many rules and regulations

Contradicting my point of view

I’ve got a deep-rooted set of values

Inked on my soul like an old tattoo

And what I’ve learned through the passage of time

There are those who choose the easier way

But don’t give up and don’t lose heart

With a little faith you can find your way

And it’s not the years it’s the mileage

Every second you have is a gift from above

And all I need are some comfy shoes and your…

love, love, love, love, love, love, love
